DAY 1, MON, OCT 4 – ACROSS THE ATLANTIC 

Depart Phoenix and connect with your overnight transatlantic jet flight. 

DAY 2, TUE, OCT 5 – ARRIVE LISBON/FATIMA 

Arrive today in the capital city of Lisbon. In the 15th Century, Portugal was the first nation to begin exploration and trade far from the shores of the Mediterranean. Upon arrival in Lisbon, enjoy a brief orientation tour (time permitting) before you depart for the village of Fatima, the world’s most famous Marian shrine. Overnight in the Fatima for the next two nights. (D) 

DAY 3, WED, OCT 6 – FATIMA 

Here, on the thirteenth of each month between May and October in 1917, the Blessed Mother appeared to three young children and exhorted the world to pray for world peace. Your visit this afternoon will include the Basilica of Our Lady of Fatima, site of Francisco and Jacinta’s graves, and the Little Chapel of Apparitions with the statue of “Our Lady of Fatima.” Time for devotion and worship. DAY 4, THU, OCT 7 – FATIMA/COIMBRA/BRAGA/SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA 

Depart today for Santiago de Compostela, famed pilgrimage center since the Middle Ages and Spain’s holiest city. As you drive through the Portuguese countryside, you will see the holy cities of Coimbra and Braga. Coimbra is the site of the Monastery of St. Clare, which is the resting place of Queen Santa Isabel, patron saint of Portugal. In Braga, see the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception of Portugal on Mt. Sameiro, and the Shrine of the “Good Jesus” on Mt. Espinho. (B,D) 

DAY 5, FRI, OCT 8 – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA 

Your morning tour of Santiago de Compostela, the capital city of Galicia, will include the magnificent 12th century Romanesque and Baroque cathedral housing the remains of St. James, patron saint of Spain. You will also see the various buildings of the University, one of Europe’s oldest. The balance of the day is at leisure. (B) 

DAY 6, SAT, OCT 9 – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA/BURGOS 

Today you will travel to Burgos, a city in the historic heart of Spain that served as one of the capitals of Castile and birthplace of the 11th century hero El Cid. See the gothic cathedral dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. Begun in the 13th century and completed in 1567, it is renowned for its immense size and unique architecture. (B,D)  

DAY 7, SUN, OCT 10 – BURGOS/LOURDES 

This morning continue across the border into France to the shrine city of Lourdes where between February 11th and July 16th, 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared in the Grotto of Massabielle to the poor shepherd girl, Bernadette, a total of 18 times. Scratching the ground as instructed by Mary, Bernadette saw a miraculous spring well up where none had existed before. (B,D) 

DAY 8, MON, OCT 11 – LOURDES 

This morning you visit the Grotto of Apparitions, Rosary Basilica, Basilica of St. Pius X and Way of the Cross over the Hillside. This afternoon is at leisure for personal reflection and devotion. Attend the Blessed Sacrament Procession and the Torchlight Procession, if taking place. (B,D) 

DAY 9, TUE, OCT 12 – LOURDES/MONTSERRAT/BARCELONA 

This morning depart Lourdes and head to Barcelona, considered to be the cultural center of Spain. On the way stop at the dramatically set 12th century Benedictine Archabbey of Montserrat. Perched high on sheer rock rising abruptly from the Catalonian plain, it is the spiritual heart of Catalonia. Pilgrims have been visiting Montserrat for over 700 years. Visit the royal Basilica where you will see the venerated 6th century statue of the Black Madonna, Our Lady of Montserrat. After your visit continue to Barcelona and your hotel for the night. (B) 

DAY 10, WED, OCT 13 – BARCELONA 

Barcelona is the cultural and political center of Catalonia and Spain’s most European city. The city itself is divided into two major parts: the older area symbolized by the Gothic Quarter and the more modern part with its wide avenues. This morning enjoy a city tour including a visit to the Gothic Quarter. See the Gothic Palaces of the Government of Catalonia and the City Hall, the world-famous Cathedral with its fine medieval cloister and arcades, and visit the La Sagrada Familia Church designed by the Catalonian architect Antoni Gaudí. Begun in 1882, the church is still under construction today. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this magnificent city on your own. You may wish to do more sightseeing, shopping or perhaps take time to relax and try some tapas at a sidewalk café. (B) 

DAY 11, THU, OCT 14 – BARCELONA 

Enjoy a whole free day in this city for exploring the city on your own. You may explore museums, shop for bargains or experience the city’s best seafood. (B,D) 

DAY12, FRI, OCT 15 – BARCELONA/PHOENIX 

Your pilgrimage is over as you drive to the airport in time for your return flight back to Phoenix, arriving the same day.
